PARK CITY, Utah (January 24, 2019) — Building on its reputation for safety and design, POC is pleased to introduce its latest safety innovations in body protection, helmets, goggles and apparel at the Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show in Denver, on January 30.
“Our mission at POC is fundamental to driving our innovations, and we have long held the belief that in order to protect lives, we need to consider all aspects of an accident; pre, during and post,” said Jonas Sjögren, POC CEO. “These award-winning products highlight the importance of technology in protection and we are overjoyed and energized to present them at Outdoor Retailer.”
The POCito VPD Air Vest + TRAX POC Edition is a Level 1 certified youth back protector that is integrated with a TRAX POC Edition device. Trax lets parents easily keep track of their child’s location on the mountain, can notify them of a range of potentially dangerous situations and locate them quickly if they are immobile or unconscious.
The objective of the POCito VPD Air Vest + TRAX POC Edition is to provide parents and children with enhanced safety in the mountains, allowing parents to be more confident skiing or snowboarding with their children or letting them explore independently.
The POC Edition, developed exclusively with TRAX, includes the following unique features: inactivity report; ski maps; SOS feature; topographic maps; activity data. These features will allow parents to create geofences, receive real-time alerts/updates and find a child through augmented reality. The devices use a cellular network via the Trax Play App which is compatible with most areas globally.
The new Obex Backcountry SPIN helmet with NFC chip has been developed to support getting the right help quickly after an accident, which can be the difference of life or death. Integrating the Near Field Communication (NFC) chip is unique in a snow sports helmet. The chip enables the helmet to talk for you and protect you even after an accident as the NFC chip holds your details and medical profile.
With an NFC ID chip integrated in the helmet, anyone with a smartphone will be able to retrieve the information at the scene of an injury in an instant, potentially helping medical professionals make the best judgments for treatment in the vital “Golden Hour” after an accident.
The NFC ID chip is a wireless data transfer technology which POC has partnered with the Swedish company, MY ICE INFO AB, to integrate into the Obex BC SPIN helmet. The chip can be uploaded with your medical profile and read via a smartphone using the MY ICE INFO AB app to support rescuers. It requires no battery, or cloud service and can be updated or changed. It is virtually weightless and embedded between the liner and shell to ensure security and readability.
ISPO, the world’s largest tradeshow for sports equipment and fashion, recently announced that POC has received two prestigious ISPO awards for these new products. The POCito VPD Air Vest + Trax POC Edition has been awarded the ISPO Gold Winner award, while the Obex BC SPIN helmet, received an ISPO ‘Winner’ award.
