Vibram, the worldwide leader in high performance soles and creator of the Vibram FiveFingers articulated toe shoe, announced today that its Vibram Furoshiki The Wrapping Sole won the Compasso d’Oro, an industrial design award which originated in Italy in 1954. From 1964 it has been hosted exclusively by Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI). The prize aims to acknowledge and promote quality in the field of industrial designs made in Italy and is awarded by ADI. Vibram Furoshiki The Wrapping Sole won the Compasso d’Oro for the sport-performance and innovation category.
“This award carries particular significance as it is the highest honor in the industrial design circle in Italy, and is as famous as other such design awards like the Red Dot Award,” comments Michael Gionfriddo, CEO and President of the Vibram Corporation. “We are extremely proud of winning the Golden Compass International Award. This is a huge accomplishment for the Vibram design team and an impressive recognition for Vibram Furoshiki in front of a wide range of products.”
The Compasso d’Oro highlights Vibram Furoshiki The Wrapping Sole as an easy-on, multi-use, adjustable fit, packable, “on the go” minimalist design. This freeform footwear offers a flexible wrap-around design for a comfortable fit, and includes a lightly cushioned foot-bed for support, and outsoles with tremendous traction. Inspired by the Japanese art of furoshiki, which involves the wrapping of any type of object in a single length of fabric, Vibram Furoshiki The Wrapping Sole is based on a Vibram XS City rubber sole, which guarantees durability and grip on urban surfaces. The fabric selected by the company to create the upper is Sensitive Fabrics by Eurojersey.
Vibram Furoshiki’s spring 2019 collection will be on display at booth #49119-UL at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, July 23-26, in Denver, Colorado.
