Diamondback Doubles Down on 2016 Triathlete Sponsorships

KENT, Washington (April 13, 2016) — Diamondback Bicycles announces the addition of two, top-ranked triathletes to its athlete roster, Michael Weiss and Ben Collins, who will join team member Rachel McBride for the 2016 season.

“Last year was Diamondback’s first significant foray into the triathlon world with the release of the Serios frame and the addition of Rachel to our athlete team,” says Steve Westover, marketing director for Diamondback. “We’re honored to have Michi and Ben join our team and look forward to supporting them as they compete around the world this season.”

Austrian athlete Michael Weiss took home first place in Ironman Cozumel in both 2013 and 2014, and won the XTERRA World Championships in 2011. Weiss, whose strength is his bike splits, hopes to set the bike course record at this year’s Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

Collins is a Seattle native who grew up swimming competitively and riding for fun—one of his first bikes was a Diamondback Sorrento. He began racing triathlon in 2005, and has since won the NYC Triathlon three times (2011, 2014, 2015) as well as the 2014 Toyota Triple Crown. Collins also plans to compete at Kona this October.

Diamondback is also pleased to announce its sponsorship of the D.C. Triathlon Club, Team GQ-6 and the Snapple Tri Team.  The D.C. Triathlon Club fosters camaraderie among local triathletes and builds interest in the sport in the Washington D.C. metro area. Team GQ-6, a hand-selected group of 125 top triathletes supported by the GQ-6 supplement company, will also ride Diamondback bicycles this year. The Snapple Tri Team is open to triathletes of all experience levels and will receive sponsorship from Diamondback.
