Filson and Merrell Launch Sandal Collaboration

SEATTLE, WA and ROCKFORD, MI (July 10, 2019) — Filson and Merrell have launched a limited-edition sandal, available now in Filson stores, on Filson.com and on Merrell.com.

The mission of the partnership was to bring two pioneers of the outdoors together to create a product that embodies both brands. Merrell, making innovative technical footwear since the 80’s partnered with Filson to update an archived outdoor sandal style. Filson, the Original Alaska Outfitter, has been creating long-lasting gear for outdoor pursuits since 1897 with a reputation for quality and durability.

“It’s important to us at Merrell to work alongside partners who share our values as well as our mission of enabling people to experience the outdoors, and Filson fit that mold perfectly,” said Marshall Davis, Brand Director at Merrell. “By uniting our two brands, we’ve been able to expand upon each other's authentic performance heritage and reach new consumers through our product, as well as through compelling storytelling of unique people in the outdoors.”

Merrell was the logical partner,” said Doug Thielen, Filson director of marketing. “Both brands share a desire to connect people to the wild and this partnership is the culmination of that shared value.”

In addition to the sandal, Filson and Merrell teamed up with the award-winning film studio, Camp4 Collective to tell the unique story of Ryan Bailey, a whitewater kayaker, wildland firefighter, corn dog connoisseur and the unofficial Mayor, of Banks, ID, home to 17 hearty residents. “Ryan’s unique outlook on life, connection to the outdoors and relentless drive to live his life unapologetically, drew Filson and Merrell to his story as a way to highlight the collaboration between both brands,” added Doug Thielen.

The sandals are available in men’s and women’s sizes and feature adjustable canvas straps, Merrell Air Cushion, and comfortable compression-molded EVA footbeds. MSRP for the sandals is $120.
