CHICO, Calif. (Sept. 23, 2019) – With a proven track record of environmental activism, Klean Kanteen is proud to announce it has joined Climate Neutral Certified to become one of the leaders in reducing carbon emissions on a company-wide scale. Using an independent and rigorous certification program, Climate Neutral verifies a company has achieved net-zero carbon emissions for the entirety of a company’s greenhouse gas footprint through a combination of emissions reductions and offsets.
“Since early 2009 we have worked to measure and reduce our carbon footprint because it’s the right thing to do for current and future generations,” said Jim Osgood, CEO at Klean Kanteen. “Being Climate Neutral Certified will help Klean accelerate emissions reductions throughout our business operations and supply chain and encourage others to follow suit. It also signifies our company’s support for a global price on carbon and one more step of many more to come. We are committed to continually reduce our impact on our environment as we continue to grow.”
Climate Neutral is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon world by recruiting companies to publicly measure, reduce, and offset their carbon emissions. Climate Neutral facilitates the certification program using standards developed and maintained through a multi-stakeholder process. Companies certified under Climate Neutral are required to purchase high-quality credits authenticated by the most trusted and scientifically rigorous verification bodies.
In 2017, Klean Kanteen installed a series of solar panels at their headquarters in Chico, CA. In only one year, the array generated 136 megawatt-hours of clean, renewable energy, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 66 percent. In addition, Klean is an original signatory for the We Are Still In campaign. As part of the campaign, Klean is committed to responsible engagement in climate policy and increasing their use of renewable energy.
“Given the urgency of the climate problem, it is critical for businesses to take responsibility for the carbon pollution generated from making and delivering their products and services,” said Climate Neutral Executive Director Austin Whitman. “We’re thrilled to have Klean Kanteen join the growing set of companies that have committed to this journey. Our brands are going to lead their industry peers into a new era of social responsibility.”
Starting mid-year 2020, Klean Kanteen will begin featuring the Climate Neutral Certified label on its packaging and other materials to signify their zero-carbon footprint.
