Big City Mountaineers Launches 2019 Summit For Someone Fundraising Season

GOLDEN, Colo. (October 8, 2018) – Big City Mountaineers (BCM), a leading provider of life-changing wilderness experiences for under-resourced youth, announced the launch of its 2019 Summit for Someone (SFS) season—a series of fifteen premium mountaineering and outdoor adventures across the country. Individuals can now register to take the trip of a lifetime while raising funds for under-resourced youth to have similarly impactful outdoor experiences.

Last season, Summit for Someone raised over $260,000 for BCM’s transformational wilderness programs. Alongside roughly one hundred individuals who registered for an adventure in the SFS series, several outstanding corporations created custom Summit for Someone challenges supporting BCM. Polartec employees raised $10,000 hiking the Presidential Traverse and Thermacell employees raised $20,000 for a custom biking challenge.

“Summit for Someone has received an immense amount of support from the outdoor industry and we are excited to continue expanding the program for 2019,” says Doug Sandok, Corporate Relations Director of BCM. “The program offers something for everyone: from the individual who has always aspired to climb Mt. Rainier, to the organization that wants to give back to the industry while providing employees with an enriching experience.”

In 2018, BCM sent its 10,000th participant into the backcountry, a milestone made possible by the funding from Summit for Someone’s individual and corporate participants. The 2019 SFS series includes a winter ascent of Mt. Whitney, an all-women’s climb up the Grand Teton, and a hut-to-hut expedition on the Presidential Traverse.
