The Playa Pro Collection Raises the Standard for Flip Flop Construction, Durability and Sustainability

ROCKFORD, Mich. (January 31, 2019) – Chaco, an iconic footwear brand known for durability and proudly worn by outdoor enthusiasts for the past 30 years, announced today the all-new Playa Pro collection of flip flops. Each style in the collection is built to last with durable materials, eco-conscious design elements and optimized outsoles designed to help you reach your destination.

“We know we need to keep footwear out of landfills and on our wearers’ feet for as long as possible.” said Josh Weichhand, Chaco’s Creative Director. “We saw a big opportunity to improve the functionality, construction and life-span of flips flops in particular - a product that is notoriously disposable.”

Inspired by remote, hard-to-access beaches off the beaten path, the Playa Pro collection is durable and rugged enough for coastal exploration and dirt trail pursuits. The ChacoGrip™ rubber outsoles provide unstoppable traction on wet surfaces, rocks and sand, and several of the styles feature adjustable top loops and holstered uppers for better foot control.

The leather styles are treated with saline solution for protection from salt and water. All of the sandals in the collection are constructed with a polyurethane blend that holds its shape over time, with uppers that are reinforced and bonded under the midsole to ensure strap integrity.

Each pair of flips is made with sustainability in mind. Chaco utilized the e.dye® waterless color dye system during the manufacturing process to dye the sandal webbing without using a single drop of water. The process saves approximately one shoebox full of water for every pair of sandals made. The midsole is made with Bio-Based PU comprised of 22 percent soybean oil. The leather used in the collection has earned the gold rating from the Leather Working Group and is sourced nearby the production facility to further reduce the carbon footprint of the sandals.

As with Chaco’s classic Z/sandals, all flips in the collection can be resoled through the brand’s ReChaco repairs program. In instances when sandals have been chewed, torn or worn down, the Michigan-based team can give new life to sandals.

The collection will feature several leather, colorful jacquard webbing and mixed styles, available for both men and women. Check out the complete collection at Chacos.com/PlayaPro.
