La Sportiva Continues Market Leadership with New Footwear for Spring 2017

July 8, 2016 (BOULDER, Colo.) – For Spring 2017, La Sportiva debuts two new mountaineering boots, three new hiking boots, three new approach shoes and one new mountain running shoe. Built for performance in the mountains, the new collection provides technical footwear for objectives ranging from high altitude peaks to long backpacking excursions or a neighborhood trail runs.

“Our Spring 2017 footwear focuses on the categories that have been growing quickly for us,” said Jonathan Lantz, president of La Sportiva North America. “We’ve always been the market leader in mountain boots, but hiking and mountain running have been fueling our recent growth so we’re focused on those with some great new product. Alpine climbers, hikers, and trail runners will all find something they like in this year’s lineup.”

The G5 is La Sportiva’s newest and most technical synthetic mountaineering boot. An integrated gaiter for high altitudes and cold faces, along with a quick lacing system designed to be used while wearing gloves, provides an extremely warm boot for technical alpine routes. It weighs 30 ounces and will retail for $700. The Trango Tower will replace the -classic Trango S EVO and is an ultralight three season alpine climbing boot built for moving fast in alpine terrain. Double abrasion resistant uppers with Honey-Comb Guard in high wear zones create a durable boot, which will retail for $350.

Building on the success of La Sportiva’s first line of hiking boots that featured Gore-Tex Surround®, the brand will unveil three new hiking boots for Spring 2017. Those boots also use Gore-Tex Surround® for the best breathability in a waterproof boot, and all three models will incorporate leather uppers for stability and a classic look. The Nucleo High GTX is a full height boot that will retail for $199 while the Catalyst Mid GTX will retail for $190 in a mid-cut and the Genesis Low GTX will retail for $180. The new hiking boots will come in both men’s and women’s models.

To round out the TX collection of approach footwear that debuted in Spring 2016, a TX4 Mid GTX and TX3 GTX will join the lineup. The TX4 Mid GTX is a mid-height leather boot with Gore-Tex Extended Comfort lining for stable, comfortable, waterproof protection. The TX3 is a synthetic shoe with Gore-Tex Extended Comfort lining that can be used in technical terrain, even in winter months. The TX4 Mid GTX will retail for $190 and the TX3 GTX will retail for $175.

In the Mountain Running category, La Sportiva has one new shoe that is an aggressive, stable-structured style that was inspired by the structural concepts of the art of Origami. Built with a 9mm drop, and a comfortable medium/wide fit, the Akyra uses La Sportiva’s Trail Rocker sole system to promote natural outer heel-inner toe for support while running. Aggressive lugs with Frixion Rubber and the Trail Bite heel system provide all-terrain traction and maximum grip. The Akyra will retail for $140.
